ESRI specializes in geographic information system (GIS) and mapping software products which are presently in use at several SUNY campuses.

ESRI Software License Restrictions

ESRI is available for use by University departments, for installation on University owned machines ONLY.
ESRI is doing NO development on the Macintosh platform. It is Windows based.
*Mac users have a couple of options. There are 2 ways you can get ESRI software to run on a Mac. The first is to use ArcView GIS for Mac versions of the software. The second is to run Virtual PC on a Mac. On a Mac G3, Virtual PC would allow about 128 mb of RAM to be available for running windows-based software. Requesting ESRI Software and Licenses

  1. Submit the 'Software License Request' form to the Information Technology Services Helpdesk (ihelp@albany.edu) . You must include the following information in your request:
    • the product you are requesting and the exact version you need
    • your name, phone number, and email address (or that of the designated contact person in the department)
  2. The campus license manager for ESRI will contact you and request the following information:
    • operating system that the software will run on
    • hardware platform
    • if running on a server, the model number of the server
    • whether any keycodes have previously been issued for this machine
    • the host name of the machine that will be running the software (for tracking purposes)
    • the Node Locked Host ID (if you wish to have Node Locked Licenses)<>/li>
    • the number of licenses needed for the product (if running on a server)
  3. The request will be sent to ITEC (Information Technology Exchange Center). ITEC will generate the appropriate CD with the keycodes required to install and run the software.
  4. ITEC will deliver the software to the campus license manager who will contact you for pick up. You will pick up the software at the Information Technology Services Helpdesk in LC27.

ESRI training:

Through the SUNY-Wide ESRI license, SUNY campuses have access to the ESRI Virtual Campus Training program. This program provides faculty, staff and students with free, unlimited access to online courses at ESRI Virtual Campus.
