Change in the start and end of Daylight Savings Time Affects Calendaring

With Daylight Saving Time (DST) starting three weeks earlier this year (March 11) and ending one week later, most computers and calendar appointments will need to be updated. The early start time for DST in 2007 could also affect your phone, PDA, or other computing devices. Outlook meetings during these periods may appear to be off by an hour.

To address Outlook meeting discrepancies, ITS will be implementing a fix on Friday, February 23, 2007 starting at 5 pm. It is expected that this fix will need to run into the weekend to complete the process. During this time, your mailbox and calendar will be available to you, but you may experience a slowdown in accessing the server.

If you have meetings you have been invited to during the periods of 3/11-4/1 and 10/28-11/4, you may find that you will receive a new invitation for each of these meetings. This is expected behavior and should not cause concern.

While most users should find that their calendars have been fixed when they return to work on Monday, ITS recommends that you verify appointment times for the period of March 11,2007 – April 1, 2007. If you find that your meetings are still off by an hour, please contact your Technology Coordinator; ITS-supported clients please submit a help request at:  www.albany.edu/its/help with a description of the problem.  Meetings and appointments that you create during these time periods should contain the correct time as part of the subject line to insure accurate information.

Please check back at this site regularly for further information.
