Welcome Back!
As you return to campus, we wanted to provide some updates and information about new IT services for the fall 2007 semester.
WPA is here
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is now the standard for authenticating to connect to the wireless network. (WiUAlbany no longer requires the use of a VPN client for wireless internet access on campus.) For more information about how to configure WPA, visit http://www.albany.edu/its/tel_details_wireless.htm
Information Commons expanding to all the Libraries
We know you enjoyed working in the Science Library Information Commons, where library services and technical assistance are available. UAlbany has expanded the Information Commons so more computers are now available in the University Library and the downtown Dewey Graduate Library. Tech Help services in the Information Commons (uptown libraries) will be provided by the ITS HelpDesk. All Information Commons locations are open the same hours as the Libraries (http://library.albany.edu/hours/.) During opening weekend, the University Library's Information Commons will be open during the Library Palooza on August 26 (1-3pm.) Stop by and visit us.
Office 2007 will be available for fall
The computers located in the Information Commons, Downtown and East Campus user rooms, and the technology classrooms will have MS Office 2007 installed. As this new software looks considerable different from previous versions, we encourage students to familiarize themselves with the new interface. ITS is offering workshops to demonstrate the differences between Office 2007 and previous versions of MS Office. You can signup for a class at http://web.albany.edu/its/training/modinfo.asp?modreq=C or review information online at http://www.albany.edu/its/office2007.htm.
WebCT and Blackboard Learning Systems hosted
Web Course Tools (WebCT) and Blackboard Learning Systems (BLS) are online course management software that UAlbany hosts so faculty can augment their courses with online content. BLS is the CMS being deployed for selected classes this fall semester. Your course instructor will inform you of which system your class is hosted on. For more information, visit http://www.albany.edu/its/webct/student_faq.htm
ResNet Services provided by Apogeenet.net
Apogee provides wired and wireless internet service in the residence halls and apartments. Residential students apply for an Apogee account online at http://www.apogeenet.net/. As always, when you have questions about or need assistance with IT services, please contact the ITS HelpDesk (call 518-442-3700, submit a Help Request at http://www.albany.edu/its/help or visit the HelpDesk office in Lecture Center 27.)
