Security Tools for Beginners:

Spybot S&D

 Experience Level I

 Anti-Spyware (with optional Real-Time Protections)

  Free for Personal Use

Description of Spybot Search&Destroy:
A highly rated anti-spyware program that also offers real time protection by blocking attempts to install some forms of spyware. 
 
Basic Instructions for use:
Install Spybot S&D (do not install the Tea timer). Select "Update," "Search For Updates." Check the box next to each update and then select "Download Updates." Select "Search and Destroy," then "Check for problems." After scanning is complete, click on "Fix selected problems."
 
Tough-to-remove spyware requires a more thorough scan. Reboot your computer into safe mode by pressing the F8 key down during boot up and selecting "Safe Mode" from the Windows Advanced Options menu. In safe mode do another Spybot scan and remove the remaining spyware items.
