Attention: Internet Explorer/Visual Studio Users, System Administrators, Desktop Support Personnel.

Summary: On July 28 2009 Microsoft released updates for two of its products.  The updates (MS09-034 and MS09-035) are being released "out of band" (not as part of the regular monthly update cycle) and fix a critical vulnerability in Internet Explorer and an important one in Visual Studio.

Recommended Actions: Internet Explorer/Visual Studio users and system administrators are encouraged to verify that automatic updates are enabled for their systems or to manually update their systems as soon as possible.

Readers are encouraged to share this alert with family, friends, and associates.

ITS Actions: ITS Systems Management and Operations Staff will apply the patches to the appropriate ITS servers and managed workstations as part of the next scheduled system update.
