IMPORTANT NOTICE ON NEW VIRUS - W32.Novarg.A@mm (aliases: W32/Mydoom@MM, WORM_MIMAIL.R, Novarg, Win32/Shimg, Shimgapi)
In late January, a widely circulated virus began circulation on the Internet.
This mass-mailing worm is received in the form of an e-mail with a spoofed "From" field, a variable "Subject" and "Message Body".
Possible message bodies include:
- "The message cannot be represented in 7-bit ASCII encoding and has been sent as a binary attachment."
- "The message contains Unicode characters and has been sent as a binary attachment."
- "Mail transaction failed. Partial message is available."
The attachments extension may vary in the form of a .ZIP, .EXE, .PIF, or SCR file. NOTE that .ZIP attachments are not normally filtered by e-mail gateways. The icon used by the file tries to make it appear as if the attachment is a text file.
If you receive an email as described above, please delete it immediately. Do not open the attachment.
