Summary: The following information has been issued by ITS:"As many of you are already aware, Microsoft is releasing their final version of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows XP on Monday August 16th. Initially SP2 is being released through the Windows Automatic Updates feature. This is a complex and multi-faceted upgrade, so Information Technology Services and campus Technology Coordinators have jointly made a decision to use a solution provided by Microsoft to defer the automatic update of SP2 for machines on the University enterprise LAN.
Please note that this applies only to SP2. PCs with the Automatic Updates feature enabled will continue to have other security updates downloaded and installed.
Plans for a structured deployment of SP2 will be developed. We will keep you informed of the progress.
