Description of Safety Analyzer:
This tool was developed by George Washington University. It is a full featured forensics tool that can be used to search  hard drives for files containing strings that look like social security numbers or credit card account numbers. According to the GWU web site, the tool will search for:
 
Social Security Number search functions
  • Finds text and/or Unicode SSNs inside MS Office files, databases, and  text files
  • Performance enhancing algorithm

Credit Card search functions

  • Full Luhn Algorithm validation of numbers

Searches inside all files except known binary files

  • Over 580 known black-listed files
 
Basic Instructions for use:
To obtain a copy of the tool, you must request the link from Gary Coach at GWU. Note that there is an enterprise version of the product.
