UNIX File Restore Request To provide disaster recovery for students, faculty and staff, Information Technology Services performs regularly scheduled backups of files residing underneath the /home1 and /home2 directories on our Unix cluster. (Regularly scheduled backups are subject to change during University holidays): Full backups are taken early Monday mornings. Incremental backups are taken early Wednesday mornings and early Friday mornings. The incremental backups only copy files which have been modified since the last full backup. Individual UNIX file restores are extremely resource intensive. For that reason, we limit file restores: Only files that are NOT easily reproduced by the user will be restored. A maximum of two file restore requests per semester will be fulfilled. Generally, no mail files are restored. Generally, no dot files are restored. Before requesting a file restore, please check the schedule of backups to make sure your file existed long enough to be on a backup tape.
