Accessing the S Drive from Home With Mac OS


To access the S drive from home, you must use ftp (file transfer protocol) software.

For Macintosh OS X systems, you need to obtain ftp software capable of SSH protocol.  Many SSH ftp packages are available. An open-source version called fugu is available at:
http://filezilla-project.org/download.php

Click on the "FileZilla" download link for the type of computer you have, either Intel or a PowerPC G. Click on "Save file" (the installer will be saved to your default download area). Double click the saved FileZilla file. The file with then uncompress and the FileZilla icon will appear. Drag the FileZilla icon to your applications folder.


To start the software, click on the  icon.

You will be presented with a screen:

click Open.

To access your S drive (your UNIX account), enter itsunix.albany.edu in the Host.

Enter your University netid for Username.

Enter your Password in Password.

Enter 22 in the text box labled Port:

Click QuickConnect.




A screen will appear showing you Mac files on the left and your S drive (UNIX files) on the right:

Your local computer's files are listed in the window on the left side and your UNIX files are listed in the window on the right side. Transfer files by dragging them from one window to the other.

Note:Please note that there are special files on your S drive (UNIX account) such as .cshrc, .login, .profile - these files should not be removed.
