How do I setup wireless printing on Windows (XP-Vista)?


Requirements


  1. This client supports Windows XP(32-bit and 64-bit) or Vista(32-bit and 64-bit).
  2. You will need to log in as an administrator to complete the installation on your Windows client machine.
  3. If you have a personal firewall installed on your computer, you may see several "block message" pop ups during the download process. Select the option which will allow or accept the download to proceed. You must have these ports allowed:
    • Port 515
    • Port 28203

Downloading the software

  1. Download the appropriate Windows XP or Vista client installation package.
  2. Click on a location where you want to send your (wireless) printouts. (Note - If you want to print to more than one location, you will need to install an additional print driver for the specified location.
    • In Firefox, choose "Save File" and click OK. Firefox will save a file to your default download location (usually the Desktop).
    • In Internet Explorer, click "Save". You will be prompted to choose a location to save in. Choose Desktop and click "Save".

Determine if Your Computer Is 32-Bit or 64-Bit

  1. Open the Start menu, and click on Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information
  2. The System Information tool will display detailed information about your Windows operating system.
  3. On the right hand side of the window you will see a list of items. Look for the item called "System Type".  
    1. The value of this item will tell you whether your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit:
      1. x86-based PC: It’s a 32-bit computer.  
      2. x64-based PC: It’s a 64-bit computer.

Installing the software


If you have a personal firewall installed on your computer, you may see several "block message" pop ups during the download process. Select the option which will ALLOW or ACCEPT the download to proceed.

  1. Find the file that you have downloaded and double-click the .exe file to start the installation. If you are using Vista, you most likely be prompted to allow the installation files to run in order to continue the installation.
  2. Read the End User License agreement carefully, and then click ACCEPT and Install. Press Finish to complete installation.
    If you want to print to more than one location, you will need to install an additional print driver for the specified location.

Printing


If you have a personal firewall installed on your computer, you may see several "block message" pop ups during the download process. Select the option which will allow or accept the download to proceed.

  1. Open the file you wish to print (you must be connected to the Internet at the time of printing).
  2. From the File menu choose Print.
  3. In the Print window, select the name of the printer location you wish to print to.
  4. Set any other page settings you need, and click Print.
  5. A popup window will appear and you will need to enter in your NetID and a name of the job to identify the job when you get to the printer.
    5a. These names will help you identify your document when you are at the print station
  6. Press Print and go to the appropriate printer to pick up the printer.

Note: Jobs that are not printed two hours after submission will be deleted from the print queues.

Removing Popup

  1. Open the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel in Windows XP or the Programs and Features Control Panel in Windows Vista.
  2. Scroll down the list until you see an item named Pharos and uninstall it.
