Iris Berger (History, Women's Studies, Africana Studies) has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Social Science Research Council. She also received an International Travel Award from the American Council of Learned Societies.

Christine Bose (Sociology, Women's Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies) presented the Hoffman Lecturer at Russell Sage College, titled "Race, Class, Gender and Women's Work at the Turn of the Century."

Gail Landsman (Anthropology) received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities for her research: "Redefining 'Perfect Babies/Perfect Motherhood': A Study of Mothers of Infants and Toddlers With Disabilities."

Linda Pershing (Women's Studies) received an award for exceptional service from the University's Women's Studies Department.

Anne Roberts (Reading) received a NEH Masterwork grant for project "The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful: A Study of the Female in Fairy Tales."

Norma Riccucci (Public Administration and Policy) and Judith Saidel (Center for Women in Government) received a grant from the Ford Foundation for the project "Completing the Inaugural Record: Appointed Policy Makers in State Government.

Steven Seidman (Sociology) presented the inaugural lecture for a public lecture series in Amsterdam, Holland on multiculturalism and democracy.

Glenna Spitze (Sociology, Women's Studies) received the University at Albany Excellence in Research Award.

Lillian S. Williams (Women's Studies) received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and the University at Albany's award for Excellence in Teaching.
