LGBTQ - Lavender Graduation

Graduation is just around the corner! The Gender and Sexuality Concerns Office will be hosting thefirst ever Lavender Graduation on Friday May 15, 2009 at 3:00pm in the Campus Center Ballroom. We are writing to you in hopes that you - whether undergraduate or graduate - will join us in celebrating your graduation as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer seniors!

The Lavender Graduation is a special graduation ceremony that honors the achievements of graduating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer students on campus. A group of students and staff have joined with the Gender and Sexuality Concerns Office to help bring this great event, celebrated at countless other colleges and universities, to the University at Albany.

In conjunction with this ceremony, the newly formed LGBTQQIA Alumni Constituency will be hosting its first alumni reunion, sponsored by the Alumni Association, in the form of a social mixer on Friday May 15th from 12:00-1:30pm in the Atrium of University Hall. All faculty, staff, alumni/ae, graduates, and undergraduates are invited to attend this event as well. There will be light refreshments served.

The Lavender Graduation will then take place at 3:00pm in the Campus Center Ballroom. You may invite up to 4 other people to join you in the ceremony, which may be family members, friends or other influential people in your lives such as instructors or staff.

We would love to hear from you if you are interested in attending and or helping at this special ceremony. We hope that you join us and will be a part of this special day. If you are graduating, please let us know if you will be able to attend The Lavender Graduation by May 4th, 2009. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at (518) 442-5853 or by email at LGBTC@albany.edu.

Sincerely,

Courtney D’Allaird
