LinguaLinx Scholarship

Need help paying for your Study Abroad experience?

LinguaLinx Language Solutions has very generously donated $6,000 to the University at Albany’s Office of International Education, division of Study Abroad & Exchanges. LinguaLinx is a full-service translation agency providing multilingual solutions to today’s leading corporations, law firms, non-profit organizations and government agencies.

The purpose of these scholarships is to make study abroad possible for students who show an interest in continuing the study of languages and otherwise excel academically, but are financially-disadvantaged or would not qualify for the additional financial aid required to fund the program fees for a semester abroad.

The LinguaLinx money will be divided into (2) scholarships of $2,000 for Spring ‘08 semester programs and one (1) scholarship of $2,000 for the Fall ‘08 semester. To be eligible for this scholarship, the following requirements apply:

  1. You must be a University at Albany undergraduate student studying abroad on an Albany program for the Fall 2008 semester.
  2. You must be studying abroad in a country where the usual spoken language is not English, pursuing language studies in a language other than English.
  3. You must request to live with a host family. Only UAlbany students participating on the following Albany study abroad programs are eligible to apply: Spain - Madrid; Russia; Dominican Republic; Costa Rica; Japan - Kansai Gaidai; France - Montpellier; and Korea - Yonsei University.

In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must submit a 200 word essay describing why you feel you are a deserving candidate and how you plan to use your language skills in promoting international education after your return from study abroad. Selection will be based on academic merit (transcripts), an indication of financial need (provide a copy of your financial aid award letter), and the essay described above.
