Apply as an International Freshman

Apply as an International Freshman

You should apply as a freshman if you have never attended college before. Here's what to do:

  1. Check our deadlines. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. For priority consideration, please submit your application as early as possible. If you wish to be considered for Early Action, the deadline is November 15. For regular admission, we suggest you submit your application before July 1.
  2. Submit the application. We encourage you to apply online using the Common Application. Although submitting an online application will expedite the admissions process, if you would prefer to apply on paper, you may download the State University of New York (SUNY) Application. Submit the US $50 fee with your application.
  3. Arrange for your official school transcripts to be sent to us. All freshman applicants are required to submit an official transcript from their secondary school. Academic transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official and certified English translation.
  4. Submit your test scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), SAT or ACT as required. SAT or ACT scores are not required for international students, although students are welcome to submit them. Additionally, applicants attending high school in the US may also choose to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to strengthen their application. International students attending high school overseas must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores if English is not their native tongue.
  5. Submit the International Student Financial Statement. If needed, you may download directions for completing the financial statement.
  6. Submit a 250- to 500-word personal essay. Choose a topic that interests you, or browse our suggested topics.
  7. Submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor. You may download the recommendation form here, if needed.

Please send transcripts and other application materials to:
