Albany- Initiatives for Women, a fund-raising campaign at the University at Albany designed to enhance educational and career opportunities for
women, has selected 10 women as recipients of its first round of awards.

One component of the Campaign for Albany, Initiatives for Women has a target of raising $1 million by 1999. The No. 1 goal of the effort is to

For Catherine Forneris, a doctoral student at the University, the Initiatives for Women award will provide money to fund research for her
doctoral dissertation. For Barbara Altrock, a secretary at the University who is also working to earn her undergraduate degree, the award will enable her to take additional courses and thus earn her degree more quickly. For Anastatia Polson, the award will help finance her graduate work at the University's School of Social Welfare and thus help her reach
her goal of working to assist troubled families.

Other award winners: are: Joan Koppel, Joeanna Hurston Brown, Donna E. Aitoro, Carrie Kuehl, Teresa Noverr-Duncan, Suesanne Oxenberg, and
Maggie Ziomek. The awards were presented Saturday at a fund-raiser hosted by University President H. Patrick Swygert and Sonja E. Swygert at 410 LoudonRoad, Loudonville.
