Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer
As executive vice president and chief legal officer for TIAA-CREF, Brandon Becker leads the company’s legal and compliance, government relations and internal audit functions.
Mr. Becker was previously a partner at the law firm of WilmerHale, where he served as chair of the firm’s Broker-Dealer Compliance and Regulation Practice Group. Before joining WilmerHale, Mr. Becker spent 18 years at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he served in senior management capacities before becoming director of the Division of Market Regulation and then special advisor to the Chairman for International Derivatives.
Mr. Becker is a member of editorial advisory boards for International Finance, BNA’s Securities Regulation and Law Reporter, and the Journal of Investment Compliance. He received the SEC Distinguished Service Award and the President’s Award for Distinguished Service.
Mr. Becker holds a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota, a Juris Doctorate degree, magna cum laude from the University of San Diego Law School where he was articles editor of the San Diego Law Review, and a Master of Laws degree from Columbia Law School.
