Smoke Free Residence Halls
In recognition that the exposure to second hand smoke is
a significant health concern, the University at Albany Residence
Halls will be smoke free in all freshmen areas,
to include all of Indian and State Quads
effective June 1, 2005.
Additionally, effective June 1, 2005, all
of Dutch Quad with the exception of Bleecker and VanCortland;
all of Colonial with the exception of Clinton and Delancy;
all of Alumni Quad with the exception of Waterbury; all of
Freedom Quad with the exception of Cluster D; and all of Empire
Commons with the exception of C-1, G-1, D-1 and F-1, will
be smoke free. During this period of one academic year, smoking
will be permitted in designated student rooms ONLY. All public
areas, including those in buildings where smoking is not prohibited,
are Smoke Free.
Effective June 1, 2006 all University at Albany residence
halls and apartments will be totally smoke free.
A working group of University faculty, staff and students
will recommend a comprehensive plan for the implementation
of the no-smoking policy to the Vice President for Student
