Smoke Free Residence Halls

In recognition that the exposure to second hand smoke is a significant health concern, the University at Albany Residence Halls will be smoke free in all freshmen areas, to include all of Indian and State Quads effective June 1, 2005.

Additionally, effective June 1, 2005, all of Dutch Quad with the exception of Bleecker and VanCortland; all of Colonial with the exception of Clinton and Delancy; all of Alumni Quad with the exception of Waterbury; all of Freedom Quad with the exception of Cluster D; and all of Empire Commons with the exception of C-1, G-1, D-1 and F-1, will be smoke free. During this period of one academic year, smoking will be permitted in designated student rooms ONLY. All public areas, including those in buildings where smoking is not prohibited, are Smoke Free.

Effective June 1, 2006 all University at Albany residence halls and apartments will be totally smoke free.

A working group of University faculty, staff and students will recommend a comprehensive plan for the implementation of the no-smoking policy to the Vice President for Student Affairs. Questions or concerns can be directed to reslife@albany.edu.
