Students having winter fun on campusCampus Activities

The Honors College sponsors a variety of intellectual, cultural, and social events. These activities expand the atmosphere of intellectual curiosity and engagement beyond the classroom and foster a sense of community and togetherness for all members of The Honors College.

For current announcements of campus activities sponsored by The Honors College, please visit our event calendar.

Dessert Receptions
Dessert receptions are held at the beginning of every fall semester, as a way for Dr. Haugaard, the Assistant Vice Provost for Honors Programs, to meet students new to The Honors College. These dessert receptions, attended by groups of 8-10 students, provide an intimate setting for students to get to know Professor Haugaard and each other.

Exploring the Campus Lectures
These lectures are intended to introduce students in The Honors College to activities and programs on the UAlbany campus. Past events have included a lecture by the head volleyball coach on "The Science, Art, and Zen of Volleyball" and a private tour of the University Museum by the Museum Director.

Dippikill Retreats
Members of each class have the opportunity to spend a weekend at Dippikill, a retreat center in the Adirondacks operated by the Student Association at UAlbany. The retreat allows students to get to know each other better and explore the beauty of upstate New York. Honors students visit State Capital

Albany Roadtrips
Honors students have the opportunity to go on local roadtrips several times each year. Duck Tours of the neighborhoods and waterways of Albany and the Chocolate Tour of Albany are featured each year.

Honors College Dinner-Dance Lessons
This annual event, held during the beginning of each spring semester, offers students in The Honors College an opportunity to build community and have fun. Following a formal dinner, students learn basic ballroom dance steps from local dance instructors.

Public Lecture Series
Selected professors teaching honors courses are asked to present public lectures in the evening in the honors residence halls. These public lectures foster a sense of living and learning in a community of developing scholars. They also offer an opportunity for students to find out more about the areas of interest of professors teaching honors courses. All honors students are encouraged to attend and the lectures are open to all students at UAlbany.

Honors College Dinners
Twice a semester a special dinner is held for students in The Honors College. A special area of the dining room in the honors residence hall is reserved for honors students to eat and talk with Dr. Haugaard.

Performing Arts Center Productions
Students in The Honors College can attend select performances at UAlbany's Performing Arts Center for free. A variety of musical and theatrical performances are available for students to attend.
