The Arts at Albany
Each year, the arts at UAlbany proudly bring culture, entertainment, illumination and scholarship to thousands of students and campus visitors.
Exhibitions, Live Performances, Story-Telling
The University Art Museum
An iconic example of late 20th Century modernism, the Museum comprises three art galleries, which provide more than 9,000 square feet of exhibition space for six to eight art exhibitions per year. The Museum maintains a commitment to presenting contemporary art that broadens the worldview of students and external audiences alike.
The University's Performing Arts Center ("The PAC")
A spectacular facility boasting five unique performance spaces, The PAC began its 39th season in 2008-09. In addition to enhancing the learning experience of UAlbany students, the PAC bustles with music, dance and theater from an array of international artists and superbly talented UAlbany students and faculty.
The New York State Writers Institute
Internationally acclaimed, the Institute is one of America's premiere sites for promoting the art of the written word. Its Visiting Writers and Classic Film series have hosted Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning authors, Academy Award-winning filmmakers, and nationally renowned poets, essayists and journalists. Through its summer and young writers institutes, it also provides settings for aspiring writers to develop their artistic imaginations.
Department of Music
Provides students with a variety of specialized programs in traditional musical forms, electronic music and media, music theory, history, performance, composition, conducting, and musicology. The department supports an array of performance groups, including an orchestra and band, chorale, chamber ensembles, the University Chamber Singers, and percussion and jazz ensembles.
Department of Art
A faculty of accomplished artists and scholars invigorates both an undergraduate curriculum in studio art and art history and graduate-level MA and MFA programs. In addition, the department sponsors a lively lecture series of visiting artists, critics and art historians. While the Fine Arts Building is the main facility for photography, printmaking, painting and drawing areas, the Boor Sculpture Studio, opened in 2002, boasts state-of-the-art sculpture and digital facilities for both traditional and emerging media.
Department of Theatre
Dedicated to providing students with a broad-based foundation in the history, theory, and practice of theatre arts and dance, the theatre department challenges UAlbany students to envision and nurture the future of performance media. Its studio and departmental presentations encourage experimentation and creative risk, and develop audiences attuned to the diversity and power of the arts.
