Sara
Hilton Van Zandt
Sara Hilton was born in 1747. She was the daughter of Albany resident Jacobus Hilton and his wife, Judike Martin Hilton. She grew up on Albany's south side surrounded by family members and other production class families as well.
Almost
eighteen-years-old when she married Albany tradesman
Ryckert Van Zandt in January 1765, her first child
was born a few months later. By 1790, seven more
of their children were baptized in the Albany Dutch
church
These
Van Zandts also lived in Albany's first ward where
Rykert practiced his trade and provided contract
services for the city government until his death
in 1814.
Widow
Sara Van Zandt resided in their Green Street home
until her death in December 1830 - shy of her eighty-fourth
birthday.
