Hester
Cuyler Gansevoort
Hester Cuyler was baptized in the New York City Dutch Reformed church in October 1748. She was the daughter of Abraham and Jannetje Beekman Cuyler.
She
married young attorney and aspiring merchant Leonard
Gansevoort in May 1770. Their children were baptized
in the Albany Dutch church where both parents were
members.
These
Gansevoorts lived in a landmark home on lower State
Street. Their stables was the setting for Albany's
first great fire in 1793. After that, they moved
out of the city to their new country home at Whitehall.
Hester
Cuyler Gansevoort lived past the death of her husband
in 1810 to March 28, 1826 when she died at age seventy-seven.
