Catherine Burgiss Mc Elcheran

In 1789, Catherine Burgiss married newcomer George Mc Elcheran at St. Peter's church. Perhaps she was the daughter of soldier-turned-laborer John Burgiss.

The couple had a house on Barrack Street and held other Albany property as well. Several of their children were baptized in Albany churches. Their marriage lasted more than forty years as Mc Elcheran was an Albany schoolteacher and businessman with some ties to Vermont.

She lost her husband in 1831. Catherine Burgiss Mc Elcheran died in September 1848 and was buried in the Episcopal burial ground at the Washington Park cemetery. She had lived more than seventy-seven years!
