Alana Kupersmith

I was born on April 6th, 1987, growing up in Flushing, NY with one older brother and my two parents. We live close by to New York City, which greatly affected my life in terms of interests. I learned to love art, theater and everything cultural that was relevant to the artistic growth of society. I had the average childhood completed with friends, games, toys, nothing really out of the ordinary.

The two greatest influences in my life have been my close family friends and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Schnur family has known mine since my brother and I were young; we were both especially close to their daughter Shana and their son David. As for the The Metropolitan Museum of Art it has been my favorite place since I was a young girl; it's a magical beautiful place to me, essentially a center of peace.

The artists that inspire me the most range from traditional with Degas impressionist works, surrealist Frida Kahlo paintings, El Greco, the list goes on and on. The same situation goes for my love of theater, with far too many to name and as I see more the amount will grow. The one regret is that I never saw Cabaret because I was too young when it was being performed.

My education was artistic and practical, I went to the usual institutions for my whole education and currently go to the University at Albany majoring in History and minoring in Art history, but I have been to many art classes. I have attended art classes at the Metropolitam Museum of Art, Parsons School of Design and The Art Director's Club.

Art, however isn't my only passion, I have always read books, and to this day I thoroughly enjoy the library and bookstores. One of my favorite places is Strand Book's My favorite author is Franz Kafka, especially the unfinished novel Amerika and the two short stories The Hunger Artist and The Metamorphosis, as well as Mick Farren's surreal novelJim Morrison's Adventures in the Afterlife. My library extends to religious texts, complete with the Qu'ran, the Old and New Testament, and the Satanic Bible. The only missing addition is the Book of Mormon; as far as I can tell.

I love to travel and have been to Prague, Montreal, Quebec, Budapest, Poland and Israel. After the University at Albany I plan to resume my travels around the world and become more involved with culture, the arts, and that particular life in general. This may involve joining the Peace Corps, teaching english in another country, even visiting, working or backpacking; as far as I see it the world is open to whatever I hope to accomplish.
