Dissertation: American Identity in the 1939-40 New York World’s Fair. Advisor: Professor Carl Bon Tempo
I am studying twentieth century U.S. history, with a particular focus on social and cultural history. My research interests include American world’s fairs, identities, localism and federalism, temporality and spatiality, race, class, and gender. I am currently at work on my dissertation, titled “American Identity in the 1939-40 New York World’s Fair.” This research explores the political, economic, social, and cultural values Americans shared within their geopolitical boundaries in preparing for the Fair in the 1930s, how deeply the geopolitical boundaries influenced local identities and national identity, and how world’s fairs addressed the interplay between local and national identity.
