I am a doctoral candidate at the University at Albany with a focus on Russian and Soviet Cultural History as it relates to the Cold War.  At present I am working on my dissertation entitled Russian Culture and Science on the Soviet Screen: The Zhdanovshchina and its Cinematic Propaganda in the Early Cold War, 1946-1953 under the supervision of my committee chair Dr. Nadieszda Kizenko.  This dissertation will analyze 14 late-Stalinist biopics for their Cold War propaganda meaning/content and situate them within the context of larger questions of Soviet cinema.  Since all of these films take place in different periods of Russian and Soviet history, the dissertation will also examine how late-Stalinist society viewed Imperial Russian and early Soviet history.  In addition to Soviet film and the Cold War, my other research interests include the Russian Orthodox Church (including the Saint Cult of the Royal Martyrs and the influences of Byzantium on Russia) and the use of American mass media (including film, television, and radio) during the Cold War.
