A Year in the Life:
Beginning the Struggle for Gay and Lesbian Rights in Albany, New York, 1987-88

Stephanie Marnin, Director of the Rainbow Center, UConn and a doctoral student in UAlbany's History Department will explore the history of gay rights legislation in Albany. This talk will show how the gay and lesbian community in Albany learned to operate in the world of legislative and machine politics, and how, in a city with the longest running Democratic machine in American history, the emergence of gay rights activists altered party politics.

This Albany Heritage event is part of the History and Politics series. It is co-sponsored by Friends of the Library, Department of Women's Studies and the History Department at UAlbany. It is a free event.
