Martin VanBuren:
From Albany to the White House

Martin Van Buren was the quintessential politician. For example, he constructed the Democrtic party (in part, to supress sectional tensions over slavery) and he ran for president on the Free Soil ticket.

Patricia West will discuss Van Buren's long association with Albany, which was one of the most important sites of political power in ante bellum America.

An offering of our History and Politics series, this Albany Heritage event is hosted by the Albany Chapter of OASIS at the UAlbany Alumni Housse. Free event.

.Dr. Patricia West is Chief Curator of the Martin VanBuren Historic Site in Kinderhook, NY.
