Black Churches of Albany: The Tie That Binds African-American churches in Albany community have continued their traditional mission of providing leadership in the fields of spiritual, cultural, and educational uplift both for their members and for the community-at-large. Join Allen Ballard as he explores the history and current role of several of Albany's African American churches. Ballard, Professor of History and Africana Studies at SUNY-Albany, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Kenyon College in Ohio and holds a Ph.D in government from Harvard University. He taught government at City College of New York for 25 years, served as Dean of Faculty for 5 years, and is now CCNY Professor Emeritus of PoliticalScience. Dr.
Ballard has published two nonfiction books, The Education of Black People
(Harper and Row, 1973) and One More Day's Journey: The Story of a Family
