Alfred of Sir Thomas Arne

The Siena College Music Series joins with UAlbany Presents and Music at Trinity for a staged version of this opera, which was written for a private performance for the Prince of Wales in 1740. From its initial performance it moved to Drury Lane in London, and it was even performed in the American colonies, where, in 1757, it was produced by Francis Hopkins, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

The production is being stage directed by Langdon Brown, a member of the UAlbany Theatre Department. Mr. Brown has staged theatrical productions in NYC and London, and is a scholar on theatre of the 18th century.

Both performances start at 8 pm; pre-concert discussions start at 7:15.

The January 24 performance is at UAlbany's Main Theatre in the Performing Arts Center.

The January 25 performance is at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amsterdam.

For more information about the performances, or to purchase tickets, please phone the UAlbany box office at 518/442-3997, or Trinity Lutheran Church at 518/842-6691.
