Subject: H1N1 Update

Dear UAlbany Student:

I want to provide you with an update related to our on-going surveillance and mitigation efforts surrounding H1N1 at UAlbany. The University Health Center learned this afternoon from the Albany County Department of Health that there is one confirmed case of H1N1 in our campus community.

As you know, the University has been preparing for possible H1N1 cases since last spring. In addition to seeing students at the University Health Center with influenza like illness, we continue to monitor self-report submissions through the University’s H1N1 web site (www.albany.edu/h1n1). We have seen a slight increase in the number of students with influenza like illness over the past several weeks. It is safe to assume that H1N1 has been in and around the community at large, both state and nationwide, for the better part of the fall and will likely remain into the spring.

I again encourage you to practice good respiratory hygiene, visit the University’s H1N1 Web site (www.albany.edu/h1n1), and if you’re feeling ill, self-report through the H1N1 Web site.

I would also ask that you share this message with your parents/guardians.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact the University Health Center with any questions at askUHC@uamail.albany.edu.

Sincerely,

Peter Vellis, DO
Medical Director
