October 27th, 2009

Dear UAlbany Student:

As a reminder, the University Health Center has scheduled two H1N1 flu vaccination clinics for this Thursday and Friday. Thursday's clinic, scheduled to run from noon - 6:00pm, is completely booked. A few spots remain for Friday's clinic which will run from 10:00am - 4:00pm. Both will be held in the Campus Center Ballroom. If you wish to receive the H1N1 vaccine, you MUST PRE-REGISTER for the Friday clinic through myUAlbany (www.albany.edu/myualbany).

Additionally, in order to facilitate the University's on-going monitoring of infectivity among our campus population, I encourage you to self-report that you are ill by visiting the University's H1N1 web site at www.albany.edu/h1n1 and clicking the "Self Report Here" tab on the left hand side of the page. Please note, it is NOT mandatory that you self-report you are ill, but it is also a way for you to arrange for a flu care kit and/or meals (if you have a meal plan) to be made available to you if you reside on campus.

Due to the anticipated high incidence of flu-like illness among the campus community, please remember that a Medical Excuse is NOT necessary for missed classes. I encourage you to review the medical excuse policy (available at: http://www.albany.edu/health_center/HealthInfo/Medical%20Excuse%20Policy .doc) as well as visit the University's H1N1 website at www.albany.edu/h1n1 and review the flu care advice so you know what to do if you are feeling ill (self-care directions available at: http://www.albany.edu/health_center/DecisionmakingtoolYes_files/slide000 1.htm)

Finally, a very limited number of seasonal flu vaccinations will be available on as part of the rescheduled Seasonal Flu Vaccine on November 11th. Please visit the University Health Center website for more details at http://www.albany.edu/health_center.

I continue to urge you to practice good respiratory hygiene by avoiding close contact with people who are sick, covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth excessively, and wash your hands often.

Sincerely,

Peter Vellis, DO
Medical Director
