November 11th, 2009

Dear UAlbany Student:

The University Health center has scheduled H1N1 flu vaccination clinics for Tuesday, November 17th and Friday, November 20th. As with previous clinics, pre-registration is required through myUAlbany. Registration for these clinics is now open. Participation at these clinics will help determine future vaccine clinic scheduling as well as H1N1 vaccine ordering. The University has been very fortunate to receive this vaccine in a timely fashion.

We have seen a sharp increase in cases of influenza like illness among UAlbany students in the last three weeks. This is consistent with what both the Albany County Department of Health has seen locally and what the Centers for Disease Control have been seeing nationally. In fact, 99% of positive influenza A lab test results that are subtyped continue to be the H1N1 strain.

To qualify to receive the vaccine, you must be under 24 years of age or provide medical documentation from your treating physician at the time of vaccination confirming an underlying medical condition (heart or chronic lung disease, asthma-excluding simple exercise induced asthma, immunosuppressive disorders, severe neuro-muscular disorders, pregnancy).

Visit the University's H1N1 web site for more vaccine-related information at: http://www.albany.edu/h1n1/vaccinefaq.shtml.

Sincerely,

Peter Vellis, DO
