1. GSO Office Hours During Finals
Monday May 13th - Wednesday May 15th the GSO Office will be open 10am-7pm. Summer hours TBA.

Attention all RGSOs!
Summer funding is available for all RGSOs that wish to hold events!! If you are interested in taking advantage of this funding opportunity - please email email@example.com
with the following information:
1) Name of RGSO
2) Event that you wish to hold (and the date)
3) A Brief Description of the Event to be held
4) Amount requested and why
All summer funding considerations will be made on a rolling basis, so the sooner it is received, the more likely you are to get the funding you want!! Applications will be considered for any event through August 15th.

Thursday, May 16th, Educators Symposium! 4:30-6:30PM at Columbia County Chamber of Commerce 1 Front Street, Hudson
This is the 2nd Annual Educational Symposium being offered by the Hudson Pride Foundation in aprtnership with the Pride Center of the Capital Region. All area educaators, adminstrators and educational advocates are encouraged to attend and participate in the FREE event.
Noted educator, advocate and author, Peter Dewitt, EdD, will be the keynote speaker. Following the keynote, students from area high schools will be featured on a panel discussin their own experiences in school as well as tips for administration and teachers.

Friday, June 7th, Alternative Prom 2013!!! 7pm-11pm @ UAlbany Campus Center Ballroom. If you're interested in chaperoning for the event, please let me know! We have over 70 chaperones for this not to miss event, it's a lot of fun for both the youth and the adults that come!

6. ISO Semester-End Cultural visit to the Hindu Templte
A visit to the Hindu Temple for a culturally educational trip followed by complimentary food. There is also a religious offering (Puja) to Lord Ganesha for those who wish to observe.

7. Tango Lessons at UA - Free to students!
We will hold tango lessons in the dance studio located on the third floor of the athletic center behind the track (side nearest to Western Avenue). The lessons are open to all. You don't need prior experience to join. You may come with or without a partner. Wear shoes that slide well on the dance floor. If you don't have such shoes, just wear socks.
Classes will run every* Sunday from 3-5pm from 1/27 to 5/5.
The lessons are free to students. Non-students pay $80 for the whole semester or $15/class drop-in fee.
The teachers are from the Albany Tango Society which has been hosting tango events in the area for quite some time now. http://www.albanytangosociety.org/
Tango Instructor Bio:
Kevin Magee is the organizer and founder of the Albany Tango Society, presenting tango events in Albany since 2007. Through the auspices of the Albany Tango Society Kevin teaches six levels of tango instruction and presents free weekly classes to the community. As an organizer and presenter, Kevin has hosted over two hundred guest instructors-performers to the Capital Region, drawing from the top echelon of tango dancers world-wide. Kevin is an instructor at Emma Willard School (Troy, NY) teaching ballet, modern dance, jazz, and tango. He also teaches tango through the Student Union at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY). Prior to his work in tango, Kevin performed contemporary choreography with False Alarm, Peter Sparling and Dancers, Second Wind Dance Co., and Ellen Sinopoli Dance Co. From 1991-2007 Kevin instructed modern dance, ballet, and jazz technique, and lectured in contemporary choreography, dance history, and cultural studies at colleges and universities throughout the US. Kevin received his MFA in Dance from the University of Illinois (1991) with an emphasis in contemporary performance, choreography, and pedagogy.

8. Interactive Media Center Classes
The Interactive Media Center offers short classes in video, audio, graphics and web design applications. These classes are free and open to the public. 9. Study on LGBTQ Activism Seeks Volunteers
The purpose of the study is to explore the lives of young LGBTQ activists, who are often ignored and misrepresented in the scientific literature. This research will work to fill this gap by revealing the true experiences of young LGBTQ individuals and the ways in which they define their sexual identities and engage in sexual politics. The study was reviewed and approved by the Institutional Review Board at the University at Albany, SUNY.
I am seeking volunteers who:
- are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, pansexual, unlabelled, queer or anything in between
- have engaged in activism around LGBTQ issues (however you define it - membership in a specific organization is not required nor is a minimum amount of activist participation) and
- are between the ages of 18- 25 years old.
- completing a one-on-one interview (lasting between 1 - 2 hours, time and location to be determined by you)
Participation in the study is completely voluntary and all information provided will be kept confidential. Upon completion of the interview, volunteers will receive $15 as a thank you for your time and participation.

10. Volunteers Needed for Dissertation Research
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Heidi Nicholls and I am a Doctoral Candidate in the Anthropology Department at the University of Albany. I am looking for your assistance in completing my dissertation research. My research is centered on touristic performances, diaspora studies, and hyphenated identities in general and the Indian Diaspora in particular. Why am I interested in this research? Ultimately, investigating the duality of identity negotiation in the diaspora in connection to festivals can shed light on the importance of an extended community to new arrivals. This investigation can further inform international study programs, diasporic community agencies, and non profits, lending a voice to the importance and social relevance of culturally situated social networks.
I am looking for individuals from India who have come to Albany to either study, work, or both to take part in this research. Participation would come in the form of being interviewed for a couple of hours. This interview would be anonymous and scheduled at your convenience.
The kinds of questions I will ask will include:
- Where did you grow up?
- Why did you choose Albany?
- What are your favorite cultural festivals? Why?
- What systems were in place for your arrival that meant the most to you? Why?

11. Call for Volunteers on the Student-Debt Preliminary Planning Committee
The SDPPC is calling for volunteers interested in helping their fellow students avoid and deal with debt. Many students graduate with tremendous amounts of personal debt which can significantly impact their quality of life. Part of the reason for this is students often lack good information on how to avoid debt and how to deal with debt when it occurs. This committee will develop ways to disseminate helpful information. The ideas of this committee would be brought to administrative and student-government attention for possible implementation.
