GSO Elections April 9

Its that time of year already....GSO Election time that is!!!

Have you ever considered working for the GSO? Have you ever considered service? How about sitting on the GSO Executive Board? If you have then this email is for you, or maybe you know someone you think would excel in such a position, or maybe you are simply curious what we have to say.....no matter who you are, keep reading VOTING information included!

Starting now....we are calling for self nominations for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, MCAA Chair, Lead Senator, and University Council Representative. Below are the descriptions of each of the positions. Each of these are a one year position beginning June 1st 2011 until May 31 2012. You must be an enrolled graduate student during the time you hold office and hold no other executive position in a GSO funded student organization during your time in office.

In order to nominate yourself, you must send in an email toinvolvement@uamail.albany.edu with GSO Elections in your subject line. Your email needs to include;

a. Your Name (First and Last)

b. Contact Information

c. Albany ID Number

d. Degree Program

e. Position you wish to run for

g. A picture

Take Back the Night April 26th

ATTENTION ALL RGSOS AND INTERESTED GRADUATE STUDENTS:

RGSOs have been invited by the organizers of the annual Take Back the Night event, march and rally in Downtown Albany. They are asking for either RGSO groups or individuals to volunteer on the event date, Thursday April 26th at the College of St. Rose's campus to help the planning committee with specific programs (you can also be creative and make your own!). Some ideas of projects to volunteer for include:
·      Shatter The Secret – Many times students wish to be a part of TBTN but don’t necessarily want to speak out at the event. Shatter the secret provides students the opportunity to discretely and anonymously share their words of hope and encouragement to others. The student group will create and distribute “drop-boxes” and index cards to each resident hall to provide victims, survivors and friends and/or family members of victims to share their words of encouragement, strength and hope on one index card and place it in one of the designated drop-boxes. The student groups will then creatively combine and display the notecards at TBTN.
·      Host a “banner contest” with children at the event. Watervliet CSD usually busses over a bunch of kids to participate in this event.
·      Clothesline Project – Equinox Inc. and St. Rose both have clotheslines in existence, but we encourage a student group to coordinate a clothesline project on the UAlbany campus and bring to TBTN to add to existing lines. This event typically involves hosting a tabling event and providing t-shirts for victims and allies to decorate illustrating their experiences, feelings and perceptions about sexual violence. The more colorful, the better!

With a musical score drawn from the heartfelt spirituals and blues of the Deep South, the urban vitality of the Jazz Age and contemporary concert music by African Americans, this chamber music theatre work for actress and trio (cello, piano & percussion) celebrates the life and times of four passionate and accomplished African American women: renowned novelist and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston, ex-slave and fiery abolitionist Sojourner Truth, exuberant folk artist Clementine Hunter and fervent civil rights worker Fannie Lou Hamer.
