What she does...

Rachel's diverse studies have allowed her to face new challenges and form a broad perspective about medicine: "Choosing two majors, one a natural science, and the other a social science, has allowed me to take all different kind of courses. Also having a minor in Bioethics allows me to see things from the philosophical end of the spectrum."

Rachel is a volunteer at Albany Medical Center Emergency Room and does research in biochemistry with Professor John Welch.

Through her involvement with Project SHAPE: Sexual Health and Peer Education, she has taught classes in sexually transmitted diseases and answered diverse questions related to sex in "Loveline" (one of SHAPE's programs).

Where would she like to be in ten years? "Hopefully I'll be done with medical school and in a surgical residency program because I want to become a surgeon."
