Zakhar is heavily involved on the UAlbany campus and he has been since he stepped foot on campus as a freshman in August 2004. He believes, "You are only here for four years, why miss out on so many opportunities? You must take advantage of what is available to you." He brings an enormous amount of energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to everything he does on campus.
Zak has a bumper sticker on his car that reads, "Crew is in my Soul." That should give you a decent impression of what his favorite activity is. During the fall and spring he wakes up at around 4:00am to make crew practice and some days doesn't see his room again until after 9:00pm.
He hopes to become a doctor--possibly a pediatrician at some point in his future. He gained valuable experience at his pediatrician's office this past summer and volunteers at a local volunteer ambulance service to gain hours towards his EMT license.
Zakhar was recently chosen as "UAlbany President for a Day" and gained valuable insight into the workings of an institution of 17,000 enrolled students. He also had an opportunity that day to give testimony to the NYS Senate and Assembly Committees on Higher Education. |
