Nanoscale Engineering

The University at Albany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering has evolved into an internationally recognized multiplex for research and education in nanoscale science, nanoscale engineering, nanoscale bioscience and nanoeconomics due to its eminently successful model for collaboration between industry, government, and academia.

Unencumbered by boundaries between traditional disciplines, CNSE students take part in a groundbreaking inter-disciplinary course of study designed to address the needs and challenges of nanoscale research, rather than simply putting nano-labels on established science. The result is a unique, cross-cutting curriculum that establishes the fundamental concepts necessary for understanding nanoscale phenomena, and also offers the opportunity to delve more deeply into a wide variety of advanced topics needed to support cutting-edge research.

The program in nanoscale engineering offers students an opportunity to earn either a master’s degree in nanoscale engineering or pursue a nanoscale engineering PhD program at the nation’s most prestigious school for these emerging disciplines.

Nanoscale Engineering PhD/ MD (SUNY Downstate College of Medicine)

Offered by the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering of the University at Albany (CNSE) and SUNY Downstate College of Medicine (Downstate), this combined clinical scientist educational program provides premier hands-on training in the emerging field of nanomedicine. CNSE is the first college in the world dedicated to research, development, education, and deployment in the emerging disciplines of nanoscience, nanoengineering, nanobioscience, and nanoeconomics. Voted the number one college in the world for nanotechnology, CNSE research and education in conjunction with the outstanding medical training offered at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, students gain experience in developing and applying cutting-edge technologies to the health care challenges of today and tomorrow. Downstate has unique research strengths in neuroscience, cardiovascular medicine, and live tissue imaging that are ideal platforms for developing medically relevant nanotechnology in the areas of biosensors, drug delivery, and diagnostics.

Nanoscale Science/Engineering MS/ MBA (Dual Program)

The "Nano+MBA" represents two dual-degree interdisciplinary programs: one program links the MS in Nanoscale Sciences with the Masters of Business Administration, and the other program links the MS in Nanoscale Engineering with the Masters of Business Administration. The "Nano+MBA" is a cooperative effort between the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering and the School of Business at the University at Albany. The goal of the programs is to develop industry ready graduates who will be facilitators of change with the ability to integrate science, engineering, business, and management.
