If you work in a local, state, or federal government agency, the public sector management certificate can provide you with highly practical knowledge that can help you reach your professional goals.

Personalize your program of study with a career-aligned specialization in public management, public economics and finance, information technology and management, or public policy.

Depending on your specialization, you can complete this program entirely online or with a combination of online and on-campus classes. The program can be completed as a standalone certificate or as a step toward our MPA. Most graduate certificate courses can be applied to the Master of Public Administration program at UAlbany.

Program of Study

The certificate in public sector management is designed for professionals in or aiming to obtain management positions who wish to enhance their formal training. The graduate certificate's five-course program of study offers four areas of specialization.

Coursework in each specialization includes topics related to general management principles, as well as the special concerns of the particular field.

Applications are accepted for fall, spring, or summer admission. The certificate does not require previous graduate study.
