Applicants for admission to a limited amount of graduate study not leading to a degree may apply directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions. While not all programs entertain applications for nondegree status, many do accept applicants seeking casual graduate enrollment on a space available basis for purposes that may support the student's need to meet professional or continuing education requirements or to begin limited study in advance of formal degree application. Generally, nondegree applications are welcomed for any period up to 10 business days prior to the desired session of enrollment. Please note that individual departments may not permit nondegree study or have earlier deadlines for application submission. International applicants may not be considered for nondegree status without expressed consent of both the departmental graduate review chair and the Office of Graduate Admissions.
While the application for nondegree status is simplified to expedite review and decision, formal transcripts reflecting conferral of qualifying degree must accompany each application. Individual academic programs may also require secondary credentials (goals statement, resume, etc.) in order to be considered for nondegree admission to study. University graduate policy limits the number of credits that may be later applied for nondegree students who may be subsequently admitted to degree study and courses enrolled for in nondegree status may not be appropriate and applicable to all graduate degree programs. Academic performance at a "B" average level is also expected in order to maintain eligibility to continue. Enrollment in nondegree graduate status cannot be considered in any way as a commitment for future admission to degree study. In all cases, formal admission to degree status and application of prior credits are subject to determination by the faculty admission review committee of the for each individual academic program.
