Educational Administration and Policy Studies

The mission of the Department of Educational Administration & Policy Studies (EAPS) is to enhance the understanding and practice of leading educational organizations and policy analysis across all levels of education. The faculty are regionally, nationally, and internationally recognized experts in educational policy as well as elementary, secondary, and postsecondary school management and leadership.

Through studies leading to a master's degree, advanced graduate certificate, certificate of advanced studies, or a doctorate, students are prepared to be successful educational leaders as school and district level administrators, college and university faculty and administrators, and researchers and policymakers at domestic and international agencies and foundations around the world.

Educational Administration - School Building Leader AGC

The 35 credit Advanced Graduate Certificate program in School Building Leadership (SBL) includes coursework designed to prepare students for NYS certification as a School Building Leader (such as building principal). In addition to completing the program, students must successfully pass the NYS examination for School Building Leaders.

Educational Administration - School District Business Leader AGC

The Advanced Graduate Certificate program in School District Business Leadership (SDBL) is for students who have completed the school building leadership program and requires 15 additional course credit hours designed to prepare students for NYS certification as a School District Business Leader (such as a school business official). In addition to completing the program, students must successfully pass the NYS examination for School District Business Leaders.

Educational Administration - School District Leader AGC

The Advanced Graduate Certificate program in School District Leadership is for students who have completed the school building leadership program and requires 15 additional course credit hours designed to prepare students for NYS certification as a School District Leader (such as a superintendent or assistant superintendent). In addition to completing the program, students must successfully pass the NYS examination for School District Leaders.

Educational Administration and Policy Studies MS

This 36-credit master’s program offers concentrations in higher education leadership, educational policy and school leadership. In addition to coursework in the area of concentration, students engage in the study of organizational theory, social analysis and educational support disciplines. International and comparative perspectives are a special focus of the M.S. degree program. While not required, M.S. degree students may include an internship to enhance their academic and professional development. This degree can prepare students for administrative, policy and faculty positions in post-secondary and related institutions; administrative and staff positions in adult and continuing education programs in other educational, business, industrial, and labor organizations; education policy and administrative roles in government and international agencies; policy positions with research and advocacy organizations.

Educational Administration and Policy Studies PhD

The program leading to the Ph.D. in educational administration requires at least three academic years of full-time work, or the equivalent over a longer period, beyond the baccalaureate and may involve as many as four years. The program is designed to develop research competence and the effective application of skills in the educational administration and policy studies field.
