ITLAL starts Future Faculty Initiative
The Institute for Teaching, Learning, and Academic Leadership (ITLAL) at UAlbany has developed a certificate program designed to better prepare graduate students for their professional careers. The Future Faculty program combines formal coursework with workshops and teaching assessments to help candidates develop vital professional skills.

Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences Student Awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship
Robert Setzenfand, a PhD student in the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences, has been awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Robert's research examines how Pacific ocean waves and tropical atmosphere interact to modulate global weather and climate.

Humanities 354There’s no way around it. Pursuing a graduate degree, particularly in STEM fields, is challenging work for anyone. But some students, particularly women and students of color, face additional obstacles to those faced by their classmates. In this talk, we will quickly review those obstacles (although most of you already know what they are!). We will then focus on strategies you can adopt to help you navigate through graduate school and build an optimal experience for yourself. If you are a current graduate student, these strategies will help you survive and thrive in your current program. If you are considering graduate programs, you will also learn some tips for how to select a graduate program that is likely to work best for you.
