Recyclable material

University recyclables are brought to the Sierra
Processing center in Schenectady, NY.

The University at Albany disposes of approximately 2,500 tons of garbage per year. In the 2007-08 academic year, our institution recycled 302.93 tons of mixed paper, 6.32 tons of co-mingled product (glass, plastic, tin), 40.37 tons of scrap metal, 1.6 tons of tiers, 5.88 tons of computers, and 1/2 tons of batteries. UAlbany faculty, staff, and students participate in the nationwide RecycleMania challenges in an effort to increase waste reduction and recycling.

Initiatives & Projects

Energy Campaign RecycleMania @ UAlbany
The University at Albany is a proud participant in the recycling competitions and recyclable material benchmarking strategies organized by RecycleMania. Last year (Spring 2008) UAlbany recycled 13 pounds of material per person over the course of RecycleMania, which was a 30% increase from the previous year.

Recycling Scorecard

Recycling Scorecard
The purpose of the Recycling Scorecard is to track the progress of waste reduction and recycling on campus. The scorecard is updated at the end of every spring semester.

Faculty No-Paper Pledge

Faculty No Paper Pledge 2009
As part of UAlbany's commitment to reduce its carbon footprint, we encourage faculty members to make course material available solely online and thus reduce our paper use.

Dump & Run

Dump & Run
The current Dump & Run program is scheduled for May 13-15th on all of the Residence Halls and University Apartments.

The program was established in Spring 2008 and encourages students to donate unwated usable items before throwing them away.
