Resources for Global Health Opportunities

There are various funding opportunities available to those who want to pursue international internships. Finding resources will require you to conduct extensive research on available funding. If you are creative and proactive, you might be able to pool together funding from a wide range of resources. While some students fundraise, others compile funding from their schools and other organizations.

Alternative funding opportunities

Online crowd funding/crowd sourcing is the process of fundraising for a project through an online platform. Some students develop and manage their own online crowd funding campaign to pool monetary contributions from people to help cover expenses associated to their international internships. Examples of popular crowd funding pages include Indiegogo, GoFundMe, and FundMyTravel. Research which online platform is best for you. Each crowd funding platform has different fees, some allow you to create fundraising campaigns for free while others charge a small platform fee.

UAlbany SPH students selected to complete an approved international internship may be eligible to receive a Center for Global Health Travel Award. Contact John Justino (jjustino@albany.edu) or Carol Whittaker (cwhittaker@albany.edu) for more information about the application process and requirements. For additional information on funding opportunities offered by UAlbany, contact the UAlbany Office of International Education for details on applying for internal and external grants and scholarships for overseas experiences.
