Martha Bealler Altman Scholarship

Nurturing the business leaders of tomorrow

Denise Guerrero is one of two recipients of the Martha Bealler Altman Scholarship for 2008-09. The 21-year-old senior from New York City majors in business administration with a combined concentration in marketing and information technology. Guerrero appreciates the scholarship; “it’s something to show for my academic achievement. It also helps me financially.” After graduation, Guerrero plans to study for an M.B.A. while working in the marketing field.

Rashaun Allen, 21, was also awarded a Martha Bealler Altman Scholarship. The senior, who hails from Brooklyn, N.Y., is a business administration major with a concentration in financial management; he also majors in English. His post-graduate plans include working and earning an M.B.A. For Allen, an EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) participant and a student housing manager at the University, the scholarship “means I have even more time to study. And it encourages me to help others and creates a tradition of giving back.”

After Martha Bealler Altman passed away in 1996, her son, Nolan Altman, C.P.A., B.S. ’77, honored the longtime Maxwell Vocational High School (Brooklyn, N.Y.) business and secretarial studies teacher by establishing a scholarship in her name to support business majors at UAlbany.  Nolan Altman is a University at Albany Foundation Director.
