  Albany NanoTech
Albany NanoTech is a global research, development, technology deployment and education resource supporting accelerated high technology commercialization and job creation through leveraged partnerships between business, government and academia.
  C.E.S.T.M.
In seeking to strengthen both its partnerships with the community and the area economy, the University at Albany conceived the Center for Environmental Sciences and Technology Management (CESTM). Dedicated in 1997, CESTM is a comprehensive research facility that supports a high-tech business incubator.

 

 

East Campus
The University at Albany's East Campus brings together modern office space and high-tech laboratories in a venue that maximizes the Capital Region's research and development strengths. The facility's mixed-purpose buildings provide an interactive, dynamic environment for uniting the University's educational, scientific, and economic development capabilities with those of industry and other research institutions.

The university has recently broken ground on the East Campus for the new Gen*NY*Sis Center for Excellence in Cancer Genomics

  Center on English Learning and Achievement
The National Research Center on English Learning & Achievement (CELA) is the only national research and development center to conduct research dedicated to gaining knowledge to improve students' English and literacy achievement in schools across America.
  Initiatives for Women
Funded by individual, corporate and foundation contributions, Initiatives For Women (IFW) benefits women students, faculty, and staff - and the University at Albany and our community as a whole - by providing them the means to advance their educational and professional goals.
  Science Research in the High Schools
The Science Research in the High Schools program affords students the unique opportunity to participate in the community of scientific research and scholarship as part of their high school experience. It furthers excellence in performance and achievement, while throughout New York State, developing scientific capabilities in a broad spectrum of the student body.

Freeman Foundation
Freeman Foundation Supports East Asian Studies
In January 2001, the Freeman Foundation awarded the East Asian Studies Department at UAlbany a $1.9 million grant under the Freeman Foundation's Undergraduate Asian Studies Funding Initiative. Among the many changes this 4-year grant will bring are the following:

> Student Scholarships for study abroad

> East Asian Summer Seminar

> East Asian Studies computer lab

> Post-doctoral Scholars and Visiting Scholars

> Curricular Reform

> More guided study

Freeman Foundation funding of just over $200,000 helped the University launch the BA in Chinese Studies/MBA Program in 1998, granting scholarships to the first cadre of three Chinese and nine UAlbany students. 
Barnes and Noble Donation
In 1998, Barnes & Noble College Bookstores , Inc. pledged a total of $750,000 in support of the University at Albany.

The donation from Barnes & Noble, which has operated the bookstore on the University at Albany campus for 18 years, includes $500,000 in support of the new library, and $250,000 in support for book scholarships. Of the $250,000, $100,000 was used to establish the Barnes & Noble Endowed Book Scholarship fund, which awards book scholarships to students on the basis of merit and need; $50,000 created the Barnes & Noble Endowed Athletic Scholarship Book Fund, which awards book scholarships to University athletes; and $100,000 will support the Barnes & Noble Presidential Book Scholarships from 1999 through 2008, with awards made in $250 increments totaling $10,000 a year.

The donation from Barnes & Noble College Bookstores helped the University successfully meet the terms of a Kresge Challenge grant, generating a $500,000 award from Kresge Foundation for the new library building.
