General Studies


The College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security & Cybersecurity have scheduled CEHC 350 - The Threat Within - for Fall 2017. This 3-credit course on cybersecurity is designed for students in any discipline who have an interest in cybersecurity. It counts as a general elective and it is designated as an experiential learning. Much of the course will be taught online though there will be a required one-hour per week face-to-face class discussion session, and students will work in teams. Check the Fall 2017 Schedule of Classes for additional course details.       

General Studies students can now register for the Fall 2015 semester directly online. First-time applicants who previously attended college must also provide a transcript of prior college work.

The Office of General Studies and Summer Sessions will be closed Wednesday, December 23, through Friday, January 1, for the university-wide 2015/16 Intersession Energy Savings Initiative. Regular business hours will resume on Monday, January 4.

About General Studies

The Office of General Studies and Summer Sessions admits and registers nondegree students for undergraduate credit classes.  Courses taken as a nondegree student may count toward graduation credits if you apply and are admitted into a degree program at UAlbany. 

Each year, many General Studies students apply for admission to degree programs and are accepted by the Undergraduate Admissions office.
