The Research Foundation for The State University of New York

Founded in 1951, the Research Foundation for The State University of New York, “the RF,” exists to serve SUNY in its research initiatives and projects, and to capitalize on the scope, scale and diversity of SUNY as an engine of New York State’s innovation economy.

The RF supports nearly $1 billion in SUNY research activity annually, providing sponsored programs administration and commercialization support services to SUNY faculty performing research in the life sciences and medicine, engineering and nanotechnology, physical sciences and energy, social sciences, and computer and information sciences.

The mission of the RF is set forth in its Charter, granted on February 16, 1951 by the Board of Regents of the Education Department of New York State, and the relationship between the RF and SUNY is a contractual one, defined in the terms and conditions of the Agreement dated June 1, 1977. Copies of both the Charter and the Agreement are attached to this introduction.

More information about the RF, including its Strategic Plan and News and Events, may be found at www.rfsuny.org.
