About the Art Department
The University at Albany is one of the four comprehensive research and graduate centers of the SUNY system. The Art Department has an excellent full time faculty of sixteen, all accomplished artists and scholars. There are 185 undergraduate majors combined in Studio and Art History, and approximately 40 graduate students in the MA and MFA programs. In addition to our curriculum offerings, the Art Department sponsors a lively lecture series of visiting artists, critics and art historians.
The Fine Arts Building is the main facility for photography, printmaking, painting and drawing areas, with classroom spaces for undergraduates and private studios for graduates. The Visual Resource Library and the University Art Museum are also housed in the Fine Arts Building. The Boor Sculpture Studio is a newly constructed building with state-of-the-art sculpture and digital imaging equipment with classrooms for both traditional and emerging media, and private studios for graduate students.
Located in Albany, NY — New York State's capital — the University is convenient to Boston, New York City and other Metropolitan areas of the Northeast.
