Many families find the Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) an attractive alternative to
using lifetime savings and investments for educational expenses.
The PLUS annual limits are the difference between the student’s
cost of attendance and all other aid awarded
to the student.
The PLUS loan is not awarded automatically; parents must first apply and qualify for the PLUS loan.
To qualify for a PLUS loan, parents must have a satisfactory credit history.
If the parent is denied a PLUS Loan, the student may be eligible for
additional Unsubsidized Stafford loan.
